DIY Bed Liner Provides Same Protection As More Costly Options

The popularity of pickup trucks continues to soar. Americans are buying them faster than they’re buying cars and the variety of accessories for these vehicles is enormous. Take bed liners as a category, where numerous selection options exist from which to choose.

In the past, trucks owners had two choices when it came time to protecting the bed of their vehicle. They could purchase a plastic bed liner, which did offer a level of protection against dents, dings and scratches, but unfortunately, created some new problems.

The other choice negated some of the problems of the drop-in bed liner, but at a price. For about $350 to $700, a professionally installed spray on bed liner could be applied to the bed of the truck. Consisting of a thick, polyurethane plastic coating, the professional spray on bed liner was tough, durable and didn’t effect the factory corrosion protection.

However, not everyone is willing to pay that much to have a bed liner sprayed on, and from that need came a new category: the do-it-yourself bed liner kit. Old World Industries introduced the first do-it-yourself bed liner kit two years ago with its HERCULINER® Brush-on Bed Liner Kit. This product can be applied at home using brushes and rollers in the better part of an afternoon, providing the truck owner with virtually the same protection as a more expensive option.

Other DIY bed liners have been introduced to capitalize in this growing market. However, not all are created equally. Consumers should look for a polyurethane-based product — the same plastic as used by the professional installers — versus less expensive vinyl polymers, which are little better than a heavy layer of paint, and are typically what is the main constituent of spray can bed liner products. Also, consumers should select a product that contains an ingredient that does not just coat the bed, but also offers slip and skid resistance. HERCULINER Brush-on Bed Liner Kits, for example, imbed virgin rubber particles in its polyurethane based formulation to provide texture and skid resistance.

“With everything HERCULINER offers and the protection that it provides, consumers can literally save hundreds of dollars and get the same high quality protection with HERCULINER as they can with professionally installed bed liners,” said Lynn Repak, assistant brand manager for HERCULINER.

In addition to the cost savings, consumers who have used Herculiner are delighted with the outcomes. “In a recent survey of over 2,000 Herculiner users, we were pleased to see that we had a 98% customer satisfaction level with the product,” said Mrs. Repack. “This indicates that customers are not only saving money, but also getting the high quality results that they want and expect.”

HERCULINER can also be applied to most surfaces, including metal, wood, concrete and plastic. As a result, HERCULINER can be applied to the inside of boats, boat trailers, walkways, ramps and stairs; anyplace a tough, skid-resistant surface is needed.
